About Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport (MAN) is an important airport built in
Greater Manchester, UK. In year 2010 it was recorded as the
4th busiest UK airport and the 1st outside London, in terms
of passenger traffic. Furthermore, it was nominated World’s
Best Airport for year 1995. Being owned by Manchester
Airports Group, it is used by numerous national and
international airlines as American Airlines, Delta Air
Lines, Emirates or Singapore Airlines.
After its opening in 1937, Manchester Airport was used as
military base during World War II. Today there are three
passenger terminals, one goods terminal and two modern
runways available and the infrastructure allows MAC to
handle the Airbus A380 passenger aircraft. An airport
railway station serves traffic from and to the airport. A
modern skylink connects Terminals 1 and 2 to the airport
station. There are more than 60 international airlines using
this airport for direct flights.
Terminal 1 functions as a base for Jet2, Star Alliance or
Thomas Cook Airlines, among others. It has been
significantly renovated and extended since its opening in
1962. Terminal 2 opened much later in 1993 and is used by
SkyTeam, KLM, Air Malta or Ryanair. Modernization has
included the replacement of a shopping area with the
extension of a departure lounge.
Terminal 3 was inaugurated in 1989 by the Princess of Wales
and underwent major extension in 1998. A World Freight
